How Dynasty Trade Grid calculates a trade

Where our player and pick values come from, which league settings we support, and the exact math behind every result. Nothing here is hidden or adjusted behind the scenes.

Where values come from

Every player and rookie pick value comes from the StatChasers Dynasty Values API. StatChasers publishes a separate value board for each supported league format. On that scale the most valuable assets sit near 10,000.

We show those values as published. We don’t blend in other sources, adjust players up or down, or add our own opinions. Dynasty Trade Grid is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by StatChasers.

Supported league settings

These are the standard settings the source supports. Your choices are sent with every request, and we check that the values we get back match the format you asked for.

League settings and their options

Bench + taxi0 to 40Roster spots beyond the starting lineup, taxi included. IR, kicker and defense spots don’t count

The calculator starts with 15 bench spots. Set it to match your league, since deeper benches keep more value further down the board. Custom scoring, such as six-point passing touchdowns, yardage bonuses or points for first downs, isn’t supported. If your league uses it, pick the closest standard format and treat the result as a rough guide.

Players and picks

Players appear with their position and NFL team as listed by the source. Rookie picks cover three upcoming drafts. First-round picks are split into early, mid and late tiers, and rounds two through five each have one value per round. We don’t create values for exact slots like 1.04. Read more about how rookie picks are valued.

Each side of a trade can hold up to eight players or picks, and the same player or pick can’t appear twice.

How a trade is calculated

A = the sum of Side A’s values

B = the sum of Side B’s values

Gap = A − B

Gap % = 100 × (A − B) ÷ the larger of A and B

If the gap is between −5% and +5%, the result is near even. Otherwise, the side with the larger total has more value. If both totals are zero, there’s nothing meaningful to compare.

The 5% line is our own readability convention, not a statistical margin of error. We don’t add a bonus for the best player in a deal or subtract for extra roster spots. Values are simply added. See the worked example for the math with real numbers.

What-if scenarios

The what-if table multiplies one side’s total by 0.90, 0.95, 1.00, 1.05 and 1.10 while the other side stays the same, then reruns the same formula. It shows whether a small change in how you value one side would change the result. These scenarios are hypothetical. They’re not forecasts or confidence ranges.

How fresh the values are

StatChasers refreshes its values about once a day. Every result shows the date of the values it used. To stay within the source’s usage limits, we keep each format’s values for up to three minutes before checking for an update.

If values are more than two days old, the result says the update is delayed. If they’re more than seven days old, or the source can’t be reached, we don’t show a result at all. We never fill in with older or estimated numbers.

Why calculators disagree

Dynasty calculators build values in different ways: from real trades, crowd voting, analyst rankings or projection models. They also update at different times and support different settings. Expect different numbers for the same trade, and compare values only within one source and one format.

What the calculator can’t tell you

The calculator compares values. It can’t tell you whether a trade fits your roster, your contention window, your league’s scoring quirks or the manager on the other side. It doesn’t account for injuries, news or depth-chart changes between updates, and it can’t predict whether an offer will be accepted. Use the result as one input, not a verdict.

Shared links

When you share a comparison, we save the selected players and picks, your league settings and the date the link was created. Opening the link recalculates the trade with the values available at that time, so the numbers can change. Links stop working after 90 days. See our Privacy Policy for details.
